Understanding label settings

Getting your labels situated perfectly on the page for printing can take some tweaking. Read on if you're struggling to get them just right!

First, Allmoxy has essentially two different spots you can build labels. The "old" way which is built into an output page. If you're never played with these labels and need to start from scratch on them, check out this article. These labels types will automatically create one label for every product on an order, and the variables (aka the customizable info) are quite limited, there are not many options for you to put product-specific information on these labels so they're generally better as a simple shipping label.

The "new" labels are built at the product level so that you can customize which products have labels, as well as add all kinds of product-specific info, such as the product name, wood type, size, etc. If you haven't used these yet and need to start from scratch, glance at the steps in this article

The two main things to know about how labels now function - the previously existing margin and padding settings used to be halved. So if you were using 0.5 for your Product Top/Bottom Padding in the past, you were really only getting 0.25 on each side. Now each setting will be PER SIDE.

The other thing to note is the new Page Margin settings at the bottom.

Here are some top tips for getting your labels situated on the page properly:

1- If you can, know the actual margins on the label sheet or roll you're using! This will help you know what values to use for your settings in Allmoxy. You can usually look your specific labels up online to find the template.

2- If you don't know the sizes of margins, start with filling out the number of columns, the page size and the label height.

3- At this point you can go to an order and check out what your label page looks like, and check how it's going to print. If it's not looking quite right you can start playing with the padding and margin settings.

4- If the labels are floating too far to the top, try increasing the Top/Bottom Page Margin. For a an explanation on why, read on: the labels will build them selves from top to bottom, so for example if you have an 8.5x11 sheet, with 10 labels (two columns of 5) and tell Allmoxy that each label height is 1 inch, but don't apply any margins... that only accounts for 10 inches of the 11 inch page. In that case you might find your labels leaving a too-large gap at the bottom of the page. The solution here is to increase the Top/Bottom page margin to account for the left over space, and the labels will appear more centered!

5- Similarly to step 4, if you notice your labels seem to float too far to the left you can try slightly increasing the Left/Right page margin. But also don't forget you can center the text on the labels themselves when you build them, that may help as well:
