Import and export attribute options

Export a dropdown attribute's options to CSV, edit them in a spreadsheet and import them back into Allmoxy, including pictures and custom columns, without losing data.

A select attribute's options can be exported to a CSV with Export Currently Saved Options, edited in a spreadsheet, and loaded back with Import Options from file. The import replaces the whole table, so work from a fresh export and keep the original file as your backup.

Applies to: every shop with its own catalog. You need the Manage Catalog permission.

Export the options

  1. Open the attribute at Settings > E-Commerce > Product Attributes.
  2. In Selector Settings, click Export Currently Saved Options. A CSV downloads with one row per option and one column per field, including every custom column and supply association.
  3. Keep this file unchanged somewhere safe and edit a copy.

Edit the file

  • The first column is the option ID. Leave it exactly as it is for existing options. For a new option, add a row and leave the ID blank; Allmoxy assigns one on import.
  • Edit names and column values freely. Add new rows at the bottom.
  • Don't add columns in the spreadsheet. If you need a new custom column, add it on the attribute first with Add Column, save, and export again so the file has the header.
  • Leave the last columns (pictures and supply associations) as they are unless you mean to change them.
  • Don't remove a column that formulas use. Pricing and part formulas refer to columns by name, and removing one breaks them, and can affect old orders.
  • Save as CSV.

Import the options

  1. On the attribute, click the ? next to Import Options from file and read the format notes.
  2. Click Choose File and pick your CSV. The table refreshes with the file's contents; pictures show "Save to view/edit picture" until you save.
  3. Check every row. If anything looks wrong, don't save: leave or refresh the page and the previous options are untouched.
  4. Save. Pictures reload and the new options get IDs.

Fill a brand-new attribute from a file

  1. Create the attribute, add one blank option row, and use Add Column to create each custom column you'll need. Save.
  2. Export Currently Saved Options to get a file with the right headers.
  3. Fill the rows in your spreadsheet, leaving the ID column blank, and import it.

To copy options from one attribute to another, export the source, clear every value in the ID column, and import into the new attribute.

Things to know

  • An import can't be undone except by importing your backup.
  • Large tables: wait for the table to finish loading before you save, so no column is lost.
  • The CSV is also a quick price list. Edit a price column in the spreadsheet and import it back to reprice every option at once.
