Understanding Precision Settings in Allmoxy

Ensure your calculations stay precise and accurate with precision settings in Allmoxy

Precision settings in Allmoxy control how detailed your measurements can be when customers place orders. Think of precision as the smallest unit of measurement your system will accept - whether that's down to 1/32 of an inch, 1/16 of an inch, or another increment that works for your business.

Order Entry Precision

The primary precision setting lives under ⚙️ ➡️  E-Commerce ➡️ Order Settings. This setting acts as your system-wide default, determining what level of precision customers can input when placing orders.

For example: If you've set your precision to 1/32 inch (0.03125), and a customer tries to enter 24.4 inches, the system will automatically round that measurement to the nearest acceptable value. In this case, 24.4 would become 24.4062 inches (which equals 24 13/32 inches).

The system calculates this by finding that 0.4 falls between 12/32 and 13/32, then rounds to the closest precise measurement - 13/32.

⚠️ The rounding doesn't happen immediately when a customer types in a number. Instead, the system waits until the order or bid is saved before applying the precision rules. This can sometimes confuse customers who see their measurements change after hitting save, so it's helpful to let them know this is normal system behavior.

Overriding Precision for Specific Attributes

Sometimes you need different precision levels for specific measurements. Number attributes - which are primarily used for size values - have their own precision settings that can override your general order setting.

To adjust precision for a specific attribute:

  1. Navigate to ⚙️ ➡️  E-Commerce ➡️ Product Attributes
  2. Find and open the attribute you want to modify
  3. Adjust the precision setting as needed

💡If you want to accept order entry measurements from both imperial and metric systems, make sure you set a precision for both in each attribute!

Setting Precision at the Part Level

Individual parts can also have their own precision settings, giving you the most granular control possible. This part-level precision will override both your general order setting and any attribute-level precision.

To modify precision for a specific part:

  1. Go to ⚙️ ➡️  E-Commerce ➡️ Products
  2. Open the product containing the part you want to adjust
  3. Click on the Parts tab
  4. Select and open the specific part
  5. Adjust the precision setting

Why This Hierarchy Matters

Understanding this three-level hierarchy helps you set up precision that works for your specific business needs:

  • Order Settings: Your system-wide default
  • Attribute Settings: Override for specific types of measurements
  • Part Settings: Override for individual parts

This structure means you can have broad precision standards while still accommodating special cases where you need more or less precise measurements for specific products or components.
