Use credit memos, account credit and write-offs
Create a credit memo, use a customer's account credit, see what happens to an overpayment, write off a balance, and void a credit memo or finance charge.
A credit memo gives a customer credit they can use on other invoices. Create one at Financial > New Credit Memo. Any credit memos a customer hasn't used add up to their account credit, which you apply with the Account Credit payment method.
Applies to: creating and voiding credit memos needs the Manage Invoices permission, which only the account owner has by default.

Create a credit memo
- Go to Financial > New Credit Memo, or choose Add > Credit Memo.
- Choose the Company.
- Enter an Invoice name that explains the credit, such as "Damaged door, order 1042."
- Enter the Invoice total.
- Save.
If you sync credit memos to QuickBooks, tick Send to financial software to send this one.
Use account credit
When you take a payment for a customer who has credit, choose the Account Credit method. Allmoxy uses their oldest credit memos first. See Take a payment for a customer.
If a customer pays too much
A payment on a single invoice can't be more than that invoice's balance. When a customer pays more than they owe with Quick Pay, the extra becomes a credit memo named "Credit memo," ready to use on their next invoice.
Write off a balance
To clear a balance you don't expect to collect, take a payment on the invoice and choose the Write Off method. Allmoxy records a "Write Off Credit memo" that pays the invoice, and the write-off shows on your receipts list and in reports.
Void a credit memo or finance charge
There's no delete. Instead, open the credit memo, finance charge or other charge and click Void This Invoice, then confirm. Voided invoices drop off the invoice list.
Voiding doesn't undo payments already applied to that invoice. To void an order's invoice, move the order to Void.
Things to know
- Open credit memos show on the customer's statement.
- You can't create credit memos while payments are turned off in Financial settings.
